ABOUT
JOHN BALLOU – ARTIST (1947-2023)
Born in the state of Virgina and raised in Long Beach, California before attending Cal Poly State
University where he earned his B.A. in Architecture (1973) before settling in Benica, California where he lived until his death in 2023.
John’s love for animals and sea life took him on a yearlong journey with world famous French Oceanographer, Jacques Cousteau that is reflected in his many sea life paintings.
John’s love of painting allowed him to master the ancient art of “INTAGLIO ETCHING” that can be
experienced in many of his pieces.
John’s skill in pointillism is seen in his many drawings of a large variety of television and movie stars including but not limited to John Wayne, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Spanking and out Gang and so many more.
In 1982, John and his partner Ann opened an art studio in Benica known as the London & Ballou Studio and together published a book. Given their mutual love for animals, they were asked to do
the promotional art for Marine World Africa U.S.A. John was also commissioned to create many animal and marine life sculptures that can been seen all over the county.
What is contained in these pages are a collection of his work over the years. John will always live in our hearts and his art will live on forever.
